First of all I love Lydia and I love fancy-spancy events! For those reasons, and others as well, I have been stoked to plan the Homecoming Formal since July. A lot of factors went into this event and considering BYU’s Homecoming theme of “Take Flight”, Lydia and I made the decision to do a 1920’s themed dance. Our inspiration came from the Wright brothers “First Flight”. The 20’s is such a fun time era and this theme made the event enjoyable to plan.
Lydia and I were able to schedule a live band for the entire night. They were fantastic and played a perfect mix of swing music and dance party music. The night was catered by Station 22. We planned to have mini grilled cheese bites, pumpkin doughnut holes and pita bread with hummus. For drinks we had old fashioned lemonade and Brigham’s Brew root beer. I think my favorite part about the night was the venue we held the dance at. Last spring I interned at the Old Adobe Group. One of the venues owned by Old Adobe is The Underground. When I first saw this venue I immediately fell in love and knew that someday I had to hold an event here. The venue is so eclectic and unique. I could not have asked for a more perfect venue for this event. All of the decor and aspects of the venue lend to the perfect old fashioned themed night – especially the billiards room!
All in all, fun was had by all in attendance. And if one things for certain I definitely danced my socks off.
