EDELWEISS LODGE & RESORT
Like I mentioned before Edelweiss Lodge and Resort is a little slice of American pie in the middle of Germany. This resort is unique as it is owned by the U.S. Department of Defense so everyone who works here is American. Honestly it has been so nice to be able to be at a resort where you can use the American dollar, have American sized meal portions and actually understand what others are saying around you. A much needed break I tell you! When we arrived at Edelweiss everyone took the night to relax and unwind. The next morning we had two business visits. The first was at Edelweiss Resort and the second at Garmisch Congress Centre. I loved visiting the Congress Centre and would love to work at a similar venue someday! And for those who need clarification, a European Congress Centre has nothing to do with politics. It is similar to a convention center where performances are held or private functions, etc. Don't worry, I didn't even know this and I'm a Rec. Management student! After our business visits we walked through the city to go on a hike through the Partnach Gorge. This gorge was gorge-ous. (I know, I'm funny with my play on words). But really though I haven't been on a hike this stunning in a long time. Germany has so many hidden gems. I love it! Our second day at Edelweiss was low key. For the first time on this study abroad I was able to sleep in past seven. I was able to take a day to myself to do laundry, go swimming, take a nap, eat cereal... the works. At night we had FHE as a group, watched the Memorial Day Weekend firework show put on by the Edelweiss Resort and then sing my heart out to "Say My Name" by Destiny's Child at the resort's karaoke party. Guys, this karaoke party was wild. I've been to a few Provo karaoke parties in my time but none can top what happened tonight. It's a different crowd over here in Germany. You get a more "spirited" audience when you cross the Utah border. Edelweiss has been so good to me. They even supplied me with the Dr. Pepper I haven't been able to find anywhere in Europe. Really I am not a soda drinker but soda is cheaper than water here. Except Dr. Pepper is the one soda that no one carries so therefore I want it even more. They say you always want what you can't have. xx, m.
