This year all I asked Santa for was tickets to go visit my best friend in Hawaii. Thankfully that was exactly what was under the tree this year for me! Being able to come visit Kathy in Hawaii is something I have wanted to do since she decided to come here to BYU-H. And this year, her final year here, it all worked out! I headed out to Las Vegas to catch my flight to Hawaii on New Years Eve. It was especially fun because Kathy and Meke flew into Vegas from Idaho Falls so we had it all scheduled to be on the same flight into Honolulu together. The entire six hours was spent laughing and chatting. Once we arrived in Honolulu we grabbed our bags and headed to Costco for the weeks groceries. After we headed to her and Meke's apartment in Laie, Oahu. All three of us unpacked and knew we needed to take a quick nap before heading out for New Years Eve activities. That night we went to the PCC for a fireknife street competition. The show was insane! I can't believe people can and would ever dance  with a flaming baton/stick like that! After the show we headed over to the LDS Laie Hawaii Temple and watched the neighborhood firework show at midnight. On New Years Day we woke up bright and early (time zone change) and made a gourmet breakfast complete with pancakes, eggs, and bacon all while listening to Jack Johnson. Talk about a perfect Hawaii morning! Following breakfast we headed into Waikiki to rent scooters for the day. Kathy and Meke both got these way fast red and black mopeds and I got stuck with this white bulky vespa. It was actually pretty charming but definitely looked like I stole your grandma's scooter. We seriously had a blast zipping all around Waikiki - up and down the beach and exploring the city. It was one of those moments when in the moment you actually realize how much fun you are having and can't help but have that huge slap happy smile on your face. We drove our scooters to Chili's for lunch - a personal, long time favorite of Kathy and I. On the way back from Chili's it started to rain a bit but when you are driving through that on a scooter it feels like you are getting pelted with mini darts. Again we were dying laughing through it all. On our way back we happened to pass a group kayak racing. We headed over to Waikiki beach and spent some time on the beach before we had to drop our scooters off. After that we headed back to Laie. The night was having dinner with Meke's brother Kisa and his perfect, adorable family. Hawaii, you've been the perfect way to kick off 2016! xx, m.
