PHI PHI ISLANDS & PHUKET, THAILAND
The Phi Phi Islands were fun! After Bangkok we flew into Phuket, caught a taxi, and then a ferry and then finally a taxi boat all the way to our resort on the Phi Phi Island beach! It was quite the travel adventure but it was fun along the way and we enjoyed the journey. Gotta admit I am so proud of myself for getting on that ferry because my last ferry experience in Fiji left me vomiting up half of my body weight - you can read all about that here. Moving on - not talking about gross things like me throwing up. Rachael and I sat on the top deck so we could catch some sun. There were several other groups of kids our age traveling Asia, we talked to them about where they had gone and what their thoughts were. There was the cutest group of these girls from France - Rachael and I really enjoyed chatting with them to pass the time. Once we docked on the island we took a taxi boat to our resort. We got a kick out of how much luggage other foreigner travelers had packed. We thought our little boat would be thai-tanic 2.0 with all the luggage weight! I mean all we packed were backpacks for our month long adventure and these people packed 3 bags for a nights stay! Good thing our taxi boat didn't sink and we were able to make it to our resort safely. Rachael and I unpacked, grabbed dinner (mango smoothies, curry and pad thai again haha) and then went swimming in the ocean. The water was so warm and it was nice to get outside and do something active. We sat on the beach and watched the most beautiful sunset that night. The sky was straight on fire and then turned into the most beautiful hue of purple - a color I've never seen before in a sunset. The next morning we had every intention of waking up early to watch the sunrise over the beach and enjoy the fresh air. We woke up at 5AM to a thunderstorm! So we went back to bed, got a few more hours of sleep and then woke up and applied some temporary tattoos we brought to pass the time while it rained. We got a little temporary tattoo crazy. They looked awful so we ended up rubbing a majority of them off in the water. We ate breakfast on the beach, went swimming again and then hopped on the boat back to the main dock and eventually back to Phuket. Similar to how Rachael's family is a part of the Hilton membership program, my family belongs to the Marriott membership program. My mom let us use her points to book a hotel in Phuket. Well the only Marriott hotel in Phuket is this brand spanking new resort on the beach. It is beautiful to say the least! The resort opened about a month ago so everything is still so untouched. It is so nice to have a comfy bed with pillows like clouds for a night. It is fun to see how enthusiastic all the employees are about their new jobs. They are so excited about the resort and all the amenities that are offered. Lots of the employees have braces - you can tell they are all just so excited to have a job at the new Marriott in town. It totally makes me smile and appreciate how this industry provides jobs and opportunities to so many people. The resort here has an infinity pool that actually wraps around the hotel - the pool is shaped like the letter "U" if that makes sense. Rachael and I had fun swimming the entire pool and taking stupid videos and photos with my brother's GoPro he let me borrow (thanks Preston!). It's been a good few days and has completely rejuvenated us for the rest of the trip! It's official, we love Thailand! xx, m.
